MGT502 GDB Solution Fall 2020
Solution:
According to the given scenario Theory Y and the
Goal-setting Theory are suitable for the given scenario. So, here are the
discussion about these Theory.
Theory Y:
Theory Y offers a
positive view. It assumes that workers can exercise self-direction, accept and
actually seek out responsibility, and consider work to be a natural activity.
Management view that assumes workers like to work and under proper conditions,
employees will seek responsibility to satisfy social esteem, and
self-actualization needs.
Under Theory Y, the assumptions:
McGregor believed
that Theory Y assumptions better captured the true nature of workers and should
guide management practice.
1. Employees can view work as being as natural as rest or
play.
2. People will exercise self-direction and self-control if
they are committed to the objectives.
3. The average person can learn to accept, even seek,
responsibility.
4. The ability to make innovative decisions is widely
spread throughout the population and is not necessarily the sole responsibility
of those in management positions.
Reason for applying Theory Y:
Reason for applying
the Theory Y in scenario, because in the given scenario the discussion about
the "given the right conditions", "greater responsibility",
and "deliver their best at work". And also about "great deal of
control over the job”, and "for committed employee by fulfilling his
responsibility to achieve the objectives of his department”. So, these all are
objectives are discussed in the given Theory Y. That's why we apply Theory Y.
Goal-setting Theory:
. Specific and difficult goals lead to higher performance
than "do your best" goals.
- Direct behavior, increase effort and persistence.
. Moderating factors: Feedback, goal commitment (rather
than participation per se),
Self-efficacy, and
task difficulty.
